beautifully imperfect

Hi friends!! I’m so glad that I get to go on this journey with you and experience God with you.

This first blog may be a bit boring because I’m just going to explain what the title of my blog means and why I chose it. I might also add a few things about myself as well! BUT I promise the rest of these blogs won’t be as boring as this one.

beautifully imperfect. That is you. You are so unique and so beautiful in your own way.

When I first thought of this title, I thought of Kintsugi (meaning golden joinery). It is a very old Japanese art using a liquid gold to repair broken pottery. This method of repairing pots celebrates each artifact’s unique history by emphasizing its fractures and breaks instead of hiding or disguising them. Kintsugi makes the repaired piece even more beautiful than the original, revitalizing it with NEW LIFE!! This is their way of seeing beauty in the flawed or imperfect. I love the idea of this because here in America, we try to hide all of our imperfections when in reality, we should embrace them.

When God looks at us, he doesn’t see our imperfections. He doesn’t see the sin that we’ve committed. What he sees is Jesus. We are perfect in his image. Hebrews 10:14 says “and by his one perfect sacrifice he made us perfectly holy and complete for all time!”. So by Jesus sacrificing his life, he made us perfect in his image.

In my life, I have spent countless hours on trying to hide my imperfections and worked so hard to look beautiful. After all of that hard work, I still felt ugly. My idea of perfect was to have the perfect body, perfect hair, and the perfect personality. If I got all of that, my life would be complete. Little did I know, the more I tried to become the “perfect girlfriend”, the more I felt insecure about myself. The next few years I learned that I was not going to become perfect but I could choose to love my imperfections. I took everything that I thought was ugly and imperfect, and gave it to God.

Remember, God says you are beautiful and he loves all of your imperfections.

I know this has been quite a boring blog BUT I’m so excited for this journey that we are going to have together. I know God has something special planned for your life and I’m glad to be apart of it.

Much love,

Emily xoxo
